A very rare trachy of Theodore Comnenus-Ducas, as emperor of Thessalonica

Theodore Comnenus-Ducas, as emperor of Thessalonica, 1225/7-1230. Trachy (Silver, 25 mm, 1.81 g, 6 h), Thessalonica, circa 1225. Christ, nimbate, seated facing on backless throne, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left hand; in fields to left and right, IC - XC. Rev. Theodore standing facing on the left, wearing ditivision and loros and St. Theodore, beardless and nimbate, standing facing on the right in military attire, holding sword over his left shoulder; both holding between them cross in circle on staff. DOC 1b. SB 2158. Very rare. The flan slightly bent along one edge and with a minor flan crack, otherwise, very fine.

From a collection of coins from the medieval Balkans, privately purchased from Helios in 2012.
